Important projects carried out:
  • Development of a thermal lattice Boltzmann method based code for solving fluid flow around heated bodies. The code is capable of capturing forced, natural and mixed heat transfer.
  • Numerical simulations for thermal management and sensitivity study of Air Cooled SMPM Motor.
  • Numerical simulations for fluid flow and thermal analysis of flow through twisted tapes. The work includes use of large eddy simulations for capturing the fluctuating part of velocity and pressures.
  • CFD analysis of an IC engine cooling water jacket.
  • CFD analysis of centrifugal pump to understand the effect of tongue cutting.
  • PIV measurements for the flow across multiple cylinders.
  • Numerical Analysis of flow around two oscillating cylinders using LBM.
  • Analysis of a bubble dynamics rising in a vertical channel.
  • Analysis of a pulsating flow in a 2D pipe.
Current Research Projects:
  • Numerical and experimental analysis of Francis Turbine (Sponsored under Centre of Excellence, TEQIP-II, Rs 2.6 lakhs).
  • Closed loop two phase flow system (Sponsored by Eaton Corporation, USA, Rs. 10 lakh).
  • Natural Convection in a square cavity using lattice Boltzmann method for the development of thermal lattice Boltzmann method based code (Under TEQIP-II).
  • CFD analysis of AC motor cooling (Sponsored by John Deer).
  • PIV measurements for flow around multiple cylinders (Under TEQIP-II).
  • Simulations for bundle of square cylinders using LBM (Under TEQIP-II).
Laboratory development work:
  • Particle Image Velocimetry laboratory is recently developed to understand the flow around bluff bodies using experimental techniques. The project is funded under TEQIP.
  • Computational cluster capable of handling 80 serial codes at a time has been installed in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, COEP. This is being effectively used for carrying out research in the field of fluid mechanics and heat transfer.
Awards :
  • Recipient of best PhD thesis award for research contribution at IIT Bombay for the year 2010-12.
  • Best teacher award nominee for COEP star program at College of Engineering Pune for the year 2013.
Consultancy projects:
  • Physical verification of various mechanical systems and its proof checking has been carried out in the past wherein various mechanical components such as piping, pumps, electric motors, blowers etc are involved.
Extra Curricular Activities
  • Contributed to the teaching at Modern College of Engineering Pune by sharing the teaching of entire course on CFD at PG level, 2015
  • Taught complete course on CFD at SGGS, Nanded at PG level 2015
  • Taught complete course on CFD to UG students at GCOER, Avasari, Pune to approximately 150 students, 2013-14
